One of the physics details I neglected to mention is that if you turn for an extended period you'll start skidding. Skids last for a couple seconds and make it so that you can't use the handbrake, nor can you turn the opposite direction, though you do still have control over whether or not you want to continue turning in the direction you were. Once the skid ends you will regain your usual turning and handbrake controls.
Another feature I neglected to mention is that your items carry over from race to race, so it's best not to waste items or hedgehogs if you don't need to. ;)
Actually, it IS possible to beat Champion Class, but the process has less to do with skill and more to do with abusing the game mechanics. The trick is to try not to overtake the racer in 1st position until a split second before crossing the finish line on the final lap. Suffice to say, this is a LOT easier said than done. :P
