Ancient DOS Games --- Episode 103

Quest for Glory

Additional Information and Corrections:

  • Here's a link to the Good Old Games webpage where you can buy the Quest for Glory collection from: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/quest_for_glory

  • The game's also known as "Quest for Glory I". From what I've seen, both titles are acceptable.

  • Yes, there are blood effects in the remake, but they're very brief and are simply used to signify a successful hit in combat so I didn't feel they were worth warning everyone about. I only put up my violence warning for gore effects that are prominent or difficult to ignore.

  • There's a mini-game later in that you can play as a magic user called the Mage's Maze, but I wasn't able to get far enough as a magic user to try it out. :P

  • From what I understand, a TON of features were cut down from what was intended in order to get the game out in a reasonable amount of time, such as having different races for each of the character classes, being able to get your own familiar as a magic user, even being able to break into more places than you actually can as a thief.

  • One of the features I neglected to mention that persisted through all of the Quest for Glory games is the ability to import characters from previous games into later games, thus saving players the headache of having to build up their stats again, so long as they don't mind sticking with the class they had originally chosen.
